“Every time I see an adult on a bicycle, I no longer despair for the future of the human race.”  H.G. Wells

OK, maybe Mr. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea would have been inconsolable if he saw two crazed retirees in Spandex, but that is another issue.  Much more frightening than a giant squid.

Rich decided well ahead of time and before his retirement from the fire department to brave the cross country trip pioneered by Bikecentennial, now known as Adventure Cycling. When brother Mike thought about what he was doing in retirement from a job as government lawyer, nothing was more important than joining this epic adventure.

Rich….I hope you and your bro have a great adventure. That’s a lot of ground to cover, but I’m sure you’ll do fine. Stay safe (I still think you should be packin’ something) and I’ll follow on your blog. Take care, Whitson

T minus and counting. So close and so much fun ahead for you both. It’s going to make debentures seem boring.

p.s. Rich, Ask Mike about the comparative tradeoffs of annuities as you’re going uphill. He loves it. Takes his mind off the pedaling.

  5. Diana B says:

So this is your idea of retirement?

    • Mike says:

Funny, LACERS is having a wellness talk on dealing with mental illness in retirees. Maybe my trip is a sign of some loose screws that I did not notice?
